Retail

We advise on the development, sale, purchase and management of major shopping centres throughout the UK. We are expert at advising on retail lettings to well-known high street retail brands, luxury brands and large retail warehouse operators.

Roadside retail

Our specialist team has been involved in buying and selling most of the petrol filling stations in the UK over the last 20 years. They provide expert advice to petrol filling station clients with complementary roadside developments in both the retail and food sectors.

Leisure

We advise on lettings to night clubs, restaurants, cinemas and health clubs, both in mixed-use developments and stand-alone projects.

Hotel developers and operators

We regularly advise on the development and refurbishment of hotels, with particular experience of four and five star hotel developments in the central London market. We also advise on the refinancing and structuring of hotels, as well as day-to-day management issues and disputes. 

 

Our Track Record

  • Mount Street - We acted on the transformation of this Mayfair street into an exclusive shopping district, advising on related lettings, lease restructurings and refurbishments.
  • Roadside retail - Ongoing advice on a disposal programme of petrol filling station sites and the structure of the portfolio going forward, future redevelopments including complementary roadside developments in both the retail and food sectors and the grants of leases to major supermarkets and stand-alone convenience stores.
  • Pod Food - We advised this healthy fast food retailer on all of its central London lettings, helping it to raise its awareness and improve its market reach, including 77 Lombard Street, 6 Gracechurch Street and 6 Leather Lane.
  • Priory Meadow Shopping Centre - We acted on the purchase and ongoing property management work for this shopping centre in Hastings with lettings to end users including Superdrug, New Look, H&M and W H Smith, and ultimately acted on its subsequent sale to NewRiver Retail.
  • Fosse Park Leicester - acquisition of a shopping centre in the Midlands with over 30 stores. We subsequently advised on all lettings at the centre until its sale (on which we also acted) 10 years later.
  • Liverpool ONE - We negotiated development agreements, site assembly matters, construction agreements and all lettings work for this £1 billion, 42 acre, award winning scheme comprising 130,000 square metres of retail space, 160 shops, a multi-screen cinema and more than 20 restaurants. This included lettings to Calvin Klein, Oakley, Liverpool Bicycle, Cooper, EAT and Jack Jones
  • Festival Place Basingstoke - We acted on the £300m development of retail and leisure development Festival Place in Basingstoke, comprising over 200 shops, restaurants, bars, a multi-screen cinema, a sports centre and a nightclub, and then acted on all subsequent lettings until the sale of the investment (on which we also acted).
  • The development of a grade II listed Art Deco building on Balderton Street in Mayfair into a luxury, boutique hotel with a unique habitable sculpture by Antony Gormley and a new destination restaurant by the owners of The Wolseley.
  • The sale of Marriott's London new exciting boutique hotel, EDITION, the first such brand in London, having previously acted on the acquisition and development of The Berners Hotel, London W1 into the EDITION hotel.
  • The purchase and leaseback of a portfolio of seven Premier Inn hotel sites with ancillary pub/restaurants at a total price of over £50 million for a substantial pension fund.
  • A joint venture between a substantial land owner and a major hotel chain for a new 220 bedroom development in central London.
  • The refinancing of over £300 million of hotel debt.
  • Anti-corruption training for an international hotels group.
  • Advising in proceedings based on the Hotel Proprietors Act.
